What the Image Converter does
It re-saves pictures in the format you need: JPG for photos and maximum compatibility, PNG for screenshots, logos and transparency, or WebP for the smallest files on the web. iPhone HEIC photos are decoded directly in your browser. The HEIC decoder downloads only when you open a HEIC file, and your photos are never uploaded.
When converting a transparent PNG or WebP to JPG, transparent areas become white, because JPG cannot store transparency. Converting a JPG to PNG does not bring back detail that was already lost, and the file usually gets bigger. Use PNG only when you need lossless editing or transparency.
